The Fertile Plain

for Sharon Chin

Rain brings dust to life

Pull from earth all manner of seeds

And germinate for no reason except

To grow in ways that cannot be counted

Pouring all into fingers bloom

Grow up and across all over

Into layers of mastery and experience

Wild but with a plan to conquer

Fight and punch through

Like a plant who hungers light and air

You are fist and flower, a reminder,

A rose of Sharon for all of us

To dream about until our dreams

Are like fertile plains that flood

With markings, and meanings,

And the story of one whose love lives
