Sometimes we change.

And the pieces we thought

we could glue back together

no longer fit.

We look at the pieces

in puzzlement; so sure 

in our knowledge

of how things should be.

But people are not pieces

of a broken jar.

When people break,

the pieces don’t come apart.

They just no longer fit.
