At the same time I was making the Time Talismans, I made Calendar, which was a series of paintings made up of daily drawings connected to each other in the format of a monthly calendar.
The work was meant to be a durational exercise, with each daily segment capturing the mood that I was feeling on that particular day. There were no preparatory sketches and I had no idea of how the work would look like by the end of the month.
I had planned to make 12 paintings for this series. However, I only managed to complete six, from January to June 2024. In the end, I burnt out from having to do the daily drawings.
C A L E N D A R
On the outset, I was interested to see how the work would evolve over time, within the rigid compositional constraint imposed by the format. In the end, however, the work defeated me and revealed something I had not anticipated but should have been wise to: that time, no matter how much we try to manage it, is something no one can control.
The Calendar paintings were shown in my fourth solo show All Life is Recycled + Time is a Donut at Temu House, in June 2025.
