A Woman is Flying Through the Air

A woman is flying through the air

She is eagle, a cloud, shooting star

She sees everything in an instant

The dark blue trees and hills

Oceans swallowing cities

Cities swallowing skies

All of this and more laid out before her

She is weaver, a god, heaven herself

She closes her eyes and hears everything

The garbled prayer of so many voices

Some days it sounds like thunder

But today it's a frog mating call

Insistent, desperate and lonely

“The story of my life,” as her mother would say,

A single pathetic cry that echoes

In the hollow of her soul, heaven herself

“Why do they say they understand

When they understand nothing...

Whatever... only whatever is infinite...”

She shrugs and her wings fall off

Climbing up to the ground, she walks

Like an ape, undignified but aware

Self-possessed and self-determined

She cares nothing of your troubles

She is off to see the sea, the moon

And after that, who knows?

She is silhouette, a soul, a shadow, heaven herself
